Our Story

A Legacy of Love for Stillwater’s Pets

At Home Animal Clinic has been a quiet constant in the Stillwater, MN community for decades, a place where families and their pets feel seen, heard, and cared for. But our story isn’t just about how long we’ve been here. It’s about how we’ve grown alongside the families we serve, and how we've stayed committed to delivering the kind of care that makes a lasting difference.

Three Lady Vets With Their Pets

Our Roots

Our story begins in 2006, when Dr. Amy Phillips started her veterinary journey at At Home Animal Clinic. Though she eventually opened Lake Animal Hospital in White Bear Lake, the connection she felt to At Home Animal Clinic and the Stillwater community never truly faded.

Two years later, in 2008, Dr. Chris Shivers joined the team fresh out of veterinary school. A Stillwater native and proud graduate of Stillwater Area High School, Dr. Shivers quickly became a trusted presence at the clinic, known for building long-term relationships with clients and providing thoughtful, compassionate care.

In January 2016, the opportunity arose to bring things full circle. The practice’s former owner, Dr. Art Rutscher, was ready to step back and Dr. Shivers reached out to Dr. Phillips about co-ownership. They partnered to purchase the practice, combining their experience, leadership, and shared vision for the future.

In 2025, At Home Animal Clinic partnered with Lake Animal Hospital and welcomed a third partner, Dr. Ally Bosman, further strengthening the connection between the two clinics and expanding their shared commitment to the pets and families in both communities.

Since then, At Home Animal Clinic has remained proudly independent and locally owned, with Drs. Phillips and Shivers working side-by-side to carry forward a legacy of community-focused, high-quality veterinary care. Their partnership is rooted in mutual respect, clinical excellence, and a deep love for the pets and people they serve.

Proud to Be AAHA-Accredited

In 2022, At Home Animal Clinic earned accreditation from the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), a distinction held by fewer than 15% of veterinary hospitals in the U.S. and Canada.

So, what does AAHA accreditation mean for you and your pet?

It means we voluntarily uphold the highest standards in veterinary medicine, from patient safety and pain management to surgical protocols, diagnostics, and client communication. To maintain our accreditation, we undergo regular evaluations to ensure we continue meeting and exceeding these rigorous benchmarks.

For pet owners, it’s peace of mind. When you choose an AAHA-accredited hospital, you’re choosing a team that goes the extra mile, not because it’s required, but because your pet deserves nothing less.
